Dumpster Rental Grand Haven MI

Grand Haven is the biggest town on our northern run, twenty-two miles up US-31 at the mouth of the Grand River. Between the historic housing downtown, the tourist season and the marinas, the work here covers just about everything we do. We plan these deliveries around summer traffic, because in July the boardwalk end of town fills up early.

Roll-off containers for Grand Haven homes and businesses

Downtown has real housing stock, late 1800s and early 1900s homes on narrow lots with alleys behind them, and those houses generate the kind of debris you only get from old construction: plaster, lath, cast iron, ancient wiring, sand and cinder out of the foundations. Away from the core the neighbourhoods get newer and roomier. Tourism supports a restaurant and retail base that refits regularly, and the marinas along the channel keep a marine trade running year-round. Lake-effect snow hits this shoreline as hard as anywhere in Michigan.

Historic home renovation is the signature job here, and it is heavy: plaster and lath out of a whole floor will surprise anyone who has only ever demoed drywall. We run roof tear-offs, porch rebuilds, and full basement cleanouts in houses that have had the same family in them for generations. Commercially it is restaurant and shop refits done in the off-season, plus marina and boat storage cleanups in late winter before the yards fill up again.

Getting to Grand Haven

Straight shot north on US-31 from Holland, through Port Sheldon and Robinson Township, coming into town on Beacon Boulevard. Twenty-two miles, and outside of summer it moves well. From Beacon we drop west into the downtown grid, where the streets are narrow and the alleys are often the better approach. Winter runs get planned around lake-effect bands that can shut this stretch down fast.

Dumpster rental in Grand Haven — FAQs

How do you work around summer traffic in downtown Grand Haven?

Early. We schedule downtown deliveries first thing in the morning, before beach and boardwalk traffic builds and before the parking fills. Afternoon drops in July near the waterfront are asking for trouble. If your job is on the east side of Beacon Boulevard it matters much less and we can come any time of day.

Can we use the alley behind our downtown house instead of the street?

Usually that is the better option and we prefer it. Alleys give us a straight approach without blocking a travel lane, and they keep the container off the front of a historic house. We do need the alley clear of parked vehicles and trash carts on delivery day, plus enough overhead room under the wires.

Is a permit needed to put a dumpster on a Grand Haven street?

Street placement is a city question and the answer depends on the block, so check with them before you book. Downtown especially, occupying a parking space is not something we can authorize on our own. Nine times out of ten there is a driveway, alley or side yard that works and skips the issue entirely.

What comes out of a plaster-and-lath demolition in an old house here?

More weight than you are expecting. Plaster is dense, and the lath and old nails behind it add up fast, so we size down and swap rather than filling a 30. One room of ceilings and walls can fill a 10 yard by itself. Tell us how many rooms are coming apart and we will plan the swaps around your crew's pace.
