Construction Dumpster Rental Holland MI across Holland and Ottawa County

A house does not produce one kind of waste, so it does not want one kind of container. Demo and framing throw dense, heavy, awkward material. Drywall is enormous by volume and unforgiving on weight. Finish trades produce a slow trickle of packaging, offcuts and cardboard that fills a box surprisingly fast. Size for the phase you are in and the container earns its keep instead of sitting half full while you pay for air.

We work with builders, remodelers and trades from Hudsonville out to Fennville, and we understand the calendar you are working against. The West Michigan build season is short, everything wants to be dried in before the lake-effect starts, and one missed swap can idle a framing crew for half a day. Call the yard, describe the phase, get a truck. That is the whole system.

Size by phase, not by job

Nobody should book one box for a whole build. The material changes every few weeks and the right container changes with it.

  • Demo and site prep — dense and heavy. Smaller box, more swaps. A 20 yard full of old plaster and framing hits weight long before it hits the rails
  • Framing — offcuts, sheathing, banding and packaging. Bulky, moderate weight, a 30 yard earns its place here
  • Drywall — huge volume, deceptive weight. Board is heavier than crews expect and scrap stacks flat if someone insists on it
  • Finish and punch — cardboard, foam, trim ends, flooring waste. A 20 yard for a couple of weeks usually covers it

Our construction debris guide works through the arithmetic with real numbers rather than a size chart.

Swap rhythm on a live site

The habit worth building is calling for the swap when the box is about three quarters full, not when it is heaped. It buys us a day of flexibility and it stops your crew stacking debris on the ground beside a container that cannot legally be hauled overloaded.

Placement matters more on a jobsite than anywhere else. Keep the container where the truck can reach it after the drive is poured and the landscaping goes in, because we have all seen the box that ends up stranded behind a new retaining wall. Leave the door end clear if the crew will be walking material in. On a tight lot, one well-placed 30 yard beats two boxes fighting for the same approach.

When a swap turns urgent, same-day service exists for exactly that, and calls that reach us in the morning have a far better chance than calls at four o'clock.

Clean loads, frost laws, and the short season

Mixed construction debris is fine. Contaminated construction debris is expensive. Keep concrete, block and brick out of the general box and put it in a heavy debris container, keep cleared brush and stumps out entirely because Michigan bans yard waste from landfill, and keep the obvious hazardous material — paint, adhesive tubs half full, fuel cans — off the site pile.

Frost laws are a real scheduling constraint, not a technicality. Through the spring thaw, county road commissions post weight restrictions on affected roads — MDOT and the county road commissions publish the current ones — and a loaded truck cannot legally run them until they lift. Rural Allegan County and the gravel roads north of Holland are where this bites hardest. If your site sits on a posted road, tell us early and we will plan the swaps around it rather than around your framing schedule.

Construction Dumpster Rental — your questions

What size dumpster do I need for a new build?

Not one size for the whole job. Most single-family builds run a 20 yard through demo and site prep, step up to a 30 yard for framing and drywall when volume peaks, then drop back to a 20 for finish and punch list. Booking one container for the entire project means either paying for empty space or hitting weight repeatedly during demo.

Can I mix drywall, wood and metal in the same container?

Yes, ordinary mixed construction debris is what these boxes are built for. What you want to keep separate is concrete, brick and block, which are dense enough to blow through a tonnage allowance on their own, and anything green. Scrap metal in volume is often worth pulling for a recycler rather than burying it in the load.

How do spring weight restrictions affect jobsite delivery?

During the thaw, county road commissions post seasonal weight limits on roads that heave, and a loaded roll-off truck cannot legally run them until the postings come off. It mostly affects rural Allegan County and the gravel roads around the edges of Ottawa. We plan swaps around the restrictions, so give us as much notice as you can during that stretch.

How quickly can you swap a full container on a live site?

Call in the morning and there is a good chance it moves the same day, particularly in Holland, Zeeland and along the US-31 corridor. Late-afternoon calls generally become next-morning swaps. The single best thing a site super can do is call at three quarters full rather than waiting until the crew is already stacking material on the ground.

Where should the container sit on a tight residential lot?

Somewhere the truck can still reach in six weeks. Think about where the driveway pour, the utility trench and the landscaping will go, and keep a straight approach of roughly sixty feet open to it. Leave clearance at the door end if the crew will walk material in rather than throwing it over the rail.
