Saugatuck runs on a season, and so does the dumpster work here. Between cottage turnovers, gallery and restaurant refits that all have to finish before Memorial Day, and short-term rentals getting stripped every spring, we spend a lot of March and April on these streets. Our drivers know which ones a loaded truck can back down.

Almost everything we haul out of Saugatuck comes from frame cottages built long before anybody thought about insulation, sitting on lots platted for summer people rather than trucks. The harbour town economy is tourism, galleries and hospitality, and that shows up in the waste stream: fixture swaps, dining room refits, seasonal inventory, and the contents of a rental house that changed hands over the winter. Add dune sand under half the driveways and hills that get slick in a lake-effect squall, and placement takes more thought here than in towns twice the size.
Spring is cottage season: gut a bathroom, pull the shag carpet, empty a screened porch holding forty years of beach chairs. We run deck and dock teardowns once the ground firms up, and treated lumber goes in its own load. Downtown, the restaurant and gallery work happens in winter and early spring on a hard deadline. Then there are the estate and rental-turnover cleanouts, where an entire house leaves in one 20 yard and the keys change hands the next week.

South out of Holland we take US-31 where it runs concurrent with I-196, then come off at the Blue Star Highway exit and follow Blue Star into town. Blue Star is the old lakeshore route and it drops us at the north end without fighting the freeway. From there the driver picks an approach street based on grade, because a few of these hills are no place to turn a loaded truck around.

Most of them, yes, but we want to know before we come. Some blocks down near the water have no room to turn and parked cars on both sides, so we either come in at a specific angle or set the can somewhere workable and walk the debris. Send a photo of the street and the driveway apron and we will tell you honestly whether it works.
That is routine for us here. Tell us the checkout day and the next check-in and we will get in and out inside that window, usually a Sunday drop and a Thursday or Friday pull. The tighter the window, the earlier we need it on the calendar, because summer weekends fill up fast on our schedule too.
Not impossible, just slower. High-season traffic means we schedule Saugatuck drops early in the morning, before the beach crowd fills Blue Star and Butler Street. If your project can wait for shoulder season, September and October are the easiest months here by a wide margin, and our schedule has more room in it then.
Deck boards, joists and posts go in the container like any other lumber, and we would rather have that as its own clean load than mixed with drywall and roofing. Treated wood cannot be burned and should not go on a brush pile. Keep concrete footings out unless you tell us first, because a few buckets of concrete changes how much we can legally haul.
